Singapore has a Freedom rating of a 4 overall making it partly free. Singapore is not an electoral democracy. The country is governed through a parliamentary system, and elections are free from irregularities and vote rigging, but the ruling PAP(Peoples Action Party) dominates the political process. It has increased from its previous of a 5 mainly because it has had its first presidential election in August in which Tony Tan won with 35.2% of the votes. As of right now Singapore's media is not free. All domestic newspapers, radio stations, and television channels are owned by companies linked to the government. The internet is widely accessible, but the authorities monitor online material and block some content through directives to licensed service providers. As for being economically free Singapore is the second most economically free country in the Asia-Pacific region. A strong macroeconomic policy within a stable and legal environment is what keeps Singapore at the top. They also have well secured property rights. So while Singapore may not be up there with America in Civil Liberties and Political rights they are defiantly ahead of the game in economic freedom
